Boxelder Bugs

Size: Adult, 1 to 2-inches long
Appearance:
- adult, browish black
- 3 red stripes on thorax
- red veins on wings
- nymphs are bright red
Life Cycle:
- metamorphosis incomplete
- eggs are laid on the leaves and bark of boxelder trees
- eggs hatch when the young leaves appear in spring
Habits:
- particular pest of boxelder trees
- also occur maple, ash, and young fruit of apples, grapes and plums
- does not do any damage when it enters homes but is a nuisance
